Fun fact: I am a second year teacher.
I am originally from New York City and moved to Los Angeles two years ago to pursue my Masters in Education with a Multiple Subject Teaching credential at Mount Saint Mary's University. I graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Barnard College, Columbia University in 2009. After that, I was in optometry school for two and a half years before deciding that my happiness and passion were elsewhere. Becoming a teacher was the first step in taking full control of my life and making my own happiness first priority.
When I ask myself why I want to become a teacher, I cannot pinpoint just one reason. I cannot say that this is what I have always wanted to do. I cannot say that my academic career has led up to this moment. What I can say is that I have always had a passion to change and create a lasting impact on someone’s life. I can say that I want to go beyond the task of helping my students realize their full potential by also helping them realize who they are. I want to be an educator in the classroom as well as in life and I am determined to give my students the tools they need to become lifelong learners. I want to be a leader in my community and help generate solutions to bridge the gap in educational inequity. I want to embrace the cultural diversity that exists in the classroom yet provide equal opportunity for academic success to all students. Lastly, I want to help create leaders of our future generation through the empowerment of education and service.
